The blows are delivered with a hammer (often a power hammer) or a die. The process involves heating the metal, usually in a furnace. Forged bars can range in weight from a few kilograms to a few tons. The forged bars, though, expensive as compared to rolled products have better physical properties and are very useful in catering the bigger sizes.
